Read the latest official notices alongside the detailed CEN rather than relying on the summary number alone. Vacancies can change according to Railway requirements.

Selection process

  1. Computer Based Test (CBT): candidates are shortlisted by merit for the aptitude stage.
  2. Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT): each battery must be qualified; the prescribed original vision certificate is required for admission.
  3. Document verification: produce the original education, age, category and other applicable records.
  4. Railway medical examination and final checks: appointment depends on satisfying the prescribed fitness and verification requirements.

CBT pattern and syllabus

Duration and marks120 minutes; 100 questions carrying one mark each.
Basic Science, Mathematics and Analytical Capability60 marks: Basic Science and Mathematics 30; Data Analysis and Interpretation 30.
Logical Capability20 marks, including logical reasoning and English reading comprehension.
Mental Reasoning20 marks, including analogies, series, coding-decoding, rankings and arrangements.
Negative markingOne-third mark is deducted for each wrong answer.
Qualifying percentagesUR/EWS 40%; OBC-NCL/SC 30%; ST 25%. Qualification does not itself guarantee shortlisting.

CBAT and final merit

The CEN provides for shortlisting eight times the RRB-wise vacancies, category-wise, for CBAT. A minimum T-score of 42 in every test battery is required for all categories, with no relaxation. CBAT has no negative marking and is offered in English and Hindi. Among candidates qualifying CBAT, merit uses 70% weight for CBT and 30% for CBAT. Read the official aptitude-test instructions before the examination.

Medical standard to check before applying

Station Master carries medical standard A-2. The notice specifies unaided distance vision of 6/9 in each eye and near vision Sn 0.6 in each eye, with additional vision tests. The CEN states that candidates who have undergone LASIK or another refractive-error corrective surgery are not eligible for this post. Separate ex-servicemen provisions and the applicable vision-certificate formats are in the notice. These are recruitment requirements, not an individual medical assessment; the Railway medical authority determines fitness.
